TORTILLAS - while many may know the story around these, many may not. . I make these tortillas to honor the memory of my angel momma. I make them so I can enjoy her GREEN CHILI BURRITOS to share with anyone that will come to my home, sit down & take in all the deliciousness. . It’s one of the ways I keep her memory alive for not only myself, but for my family, my siblings, my grand kids (who never got to meet her) - she was a gift for so many, so it’s important that we all “know her” - through food, memories we share about her & our collective grief about not having her here with us. . 13 years ago at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve ...in an dimly lit ICU hospital room ...surrounded by my siblings ...my mom slipped away to her heavenly home ...I like to think the fireworks going off in the area surrounding the hospital were the excitement of her parents & brothers celebrating that she was home with them. ...I’ve never felt such immense loss or sadness ...NYE hasn’t felt the same since, grief tho!! . At the end of this reel, the b/w pic at the end was taken on Christmas Eve, a week before she passed & are the last pics we have of her. That I “felt” like we needed to get some pictures together is the gift I didn’t know I’d need a week later! . ...tomorrow is 13 years since she passed ...13 is my lucky number ...26’ is 13x2 ...so I’m leaning into 2026 with all the DeVona energy I have infused in my soul. She’s cheering me on as I navigate my world w/out her physically nearby. She was tiny but oh so mighty! . Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom of this caption & thanks for being here.
